public internet broadcasting service (PIBS)
With the Republicans cutting of the funding for public broadcasting including local and national services, we have an obligation to our children to invest in a new broadcasting service one to rival Google’s YouTube and Roku, even with survives like YouTube kids Google doesn't seem to care what kind of content they serve our children. As I watch over my son's shoulders at some of this content, I'm just I grab my phone than I block it; instantly without even an ounce of thought. they don't care about our children. The only thing they care about is keeping them on it feeding them ads. The mass amount of AI slop that is fed to our children is astounding; there's no end, it's produced faster than everybody else's content and it's flooded YouTube kids and YouTube as a whole.
I know, I wouldn’t be the person I am today if I didn’t come home after school flip on PBS to watch The magic School bus and then Bill Nye My favorite science guy. I know my older children would have a lesser understanding of the world if it wasn’t for shows like zoboomafoo and other PBS content, to allow children to grow a better understanding of the world that’s not manipulated through a corporate algorithm that is designed for profit, we can re-envision the future for our children and our children’s children. To combat the fact that Google dose not seems to care about what kind of content your children receive or the fact that they only protect their profits, if it's educational or not, it matters not. with the federal government's removing of alternative content like PBS, we can take this opportunity to reimagine our public broadcasting into something that will last into the 21st century, as TV was the dominant force in the 20th century in the 21st century, services like YouTube Roku and others Are now taking the place of traditional television. What we must do is investing in the public internet broadcasting service (PIBS).
The first thing we have to do is we have to develop a device similar to a Roku that we can offer to the general public at low cost or free to allow everybody the access to the public internet broadcasting service, This type of device is generally cheap and are not that complicated, They can be manufactured relatively cheap right here in America. The most expensive portion of these devices would be the software development which fortunately for us with the advent of AI and Big techs want to replace humans, We have a massive talent pool who are more than capable of developing the software required to run the application and innovate at the same time. We also have to accomplish the development of an applications, which can be incorporated into your smart phone, computer, or smart television to offer the widest rich possible for the public internet broadcasting service.
The second And arguably the most important thing we must do is we must invest in the infrastructure required to host the content, not rely on the big tech corporations to host our public services driving up the cost. Just your standard array of servers and all the back end infrastructure you don't typically think about when you think about YouTube or Roku. Which means the government is investing in our tech industries survival in a direct manner and support local jobs with government benefits, rather than just paying some corporation to make stuff, taking the lazy way out and capitulating to these corporations while doing it.
The third thing we have to accomplish is the content, now I would argue that since this is public broadcasting similar or the same standard should apply to the public internet broadcasting service that our original public broadcasting service had, children's content should be educational, other content should be PG, We can invite all our local broadcasting channels, here locally it would be like; Fox 9, Kare 11, we could just allow them to just stream what they would originally put on air on the public internet broadcasting channel, allowing us to continue our long tradition of local media and other local broadcasting channels.
By updating our public broadcasting services to the 21st century we can avoid consolidation of power by the corporate media or corporations in general.A lot of time and money has been spent overtly trying to control the narrative within the country. Usually via insane billionaires buying media companies or social media for no apparent reason other than to push their own personal narrative and brainwash the country. We can and must; reinvent, reinvest, and redistribute American public broadcasting abilities. After all, where would all of us be without Bob Ross, And where would he have been without PBS?
