No Monarchy in America!

About this event

“This coming April 19 will mark the 250th anniversary of the battles of Lexington and Concord, which began the American Revolution and our war against monarchical power.

Anti-royalist militia in Massachusetts refused to disperse when ordered to by British troops. A shot was fired, and the troops kept firing, killing eight of those American resisters. Later that day, the militiamen returned that fire, killing a number of British soldiers. The revolution had begun.

Please don’t get me wrong. I do not advocate violence. I’m simply reminding you that this nation was founded on resistance to arbitrary authority. We built American democracy in the face of what seemed to be impossible odds.

And we will never, ever give up that fight.

My friend Harold Meyerson suggests that on April 19 we stage massive peaceful protests in every city and town — crowds of Americans celebrating the anti-monarchical uprising of 1775 and pledging their allegiance to that heritage by denouncing Trump’s increasingly autocratic rule “

LGBTQIA+ National March on Washington

LGBTQIA+ National March on Washington

The LGBTQIA+ National March on Washington is a historic event that will take place on April 30, 2025, as a direct response to the rising tide of anti-LGBTQIA+ legislation and political attacks across the country. This peaceful protest will see 100,000+ individuals marching from the U.S. Capitol to the White House, united in our demand for full civil rights and legal protections for all LGBTQIA+ people. As we face increasing challenges to our rights and visibility, this march is not just about protesting injustice—it is about making our voices impossible to ignore. This demonstration is a call to action, showing lawmakers that we will not back down. We will be loud, proud, and unapologetic, demanding that our rights be protected and upheld for future generations. Our fight is for equality, freedom, and dignity—we march to make it clear that LGBTQIA+ people belong and deserve a fair, just society.

Be the pitchfork in the Road- Stop the Coup!

About this event

t's time to meet the Trump/Musk ultimatum of "Fork in the Road" mass firing of patriotic, hardworking civil servants & their coup to overturn our democracy with "Pitchforks in the Road" to "Stop the Coup."  There has never been a time in this country when we have come closer to the brink of a Constitutional Crisis since the Civil War (& some experts feel that we are currently in free fall) & actions that are being taken by the White House are going to be dramatically affecting all of our lives in a way just as seriously (if not more) than the lead up to WWII.  Who woulda thunk that we'd ever have to fight fascism/nazis in our own shores.... And it's clear that, while this will affect all of our lives in a dramatic/surrealistic way, it will affect all of who are not lily-white & male, more than others.  We need to put on a show to send a message to the White House, that Nashville is a great blue city in a ruby red state, & that we are united:  what affects one, affects all....

So, grab yer pitchforks (no, really, don't bring any pitchforks or other weapons!) & join us for a FLASH MOB PROTEST:

Online Workshop-Making & Deploying Giant Freeway Overpass Banners

About this event

Overpass bannering is a highly effective form of civil engagement. Join us for an online Intro to Bannering, a visual tactic Backbone Campaign has been leading on for the last 23 years!

Thursday, March 13th at 5pm Pacific /7pm Central /8pm Eastern

RSVP for the zoom link.

At this workshop, we'll walk through the materials we use and how to put together a banner. We'll show you how to "rig" your banner to poles and tips for safely and legally deploying it on a freeway overpass. (These banners also work great in marches, at events behind a speaker, at intersections, ferry terminals and more.)

We'll provide info on how you can get one of our banner kits to create and deploy banners in your community - or if you want to source your own materials, we'll have suggestions on resources.

Overpass bannering is a highly visible and 100% legal way for folks to take action together. It only takes 2-4 people and an hour of time to reach tens of thousands of people and make them feel less alone - and maybe inspire them to stand up as well!
